Latvian postal service fees to increase next year

Take note – story published 2 years and 4 months ago

As of January 1, 2023, Latvian postal service Latvijas Pasts (LP) plans to increase the average tariff for letter correspondence – letters, postcards, and small packages – by an average of 13%, said the company on July 20.

The average increase in parcel rates is projected at 7%.

The tariff increase is expected to take into account the high overall inflation at both Latvian and global levels, but particularly the significant increase in energy tariffs, which increases transportation costs. The increase in costs poses a significant threat to LP's ability to fulfill the continuity of universal postal service (UPP) in 2023, while maintaining the current UPP tariffs.

Latvian Post has developed and submitted a new draft of tariffs to the Public Service Regulator Commission (SPRK). The scheduled date of entry into force of the tariffs would be 1 January 2023.
