Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkēvičs met with the Deputy Secretary General of the OECD, Douglas Frantz.
Douglas Franz commended Latvia on progress made during the accession negotiations and "highlighted in particular the merits of Latvian diplomats in directing the process, as well as support from the current and previous Latvian governments for putting OECD recommendations into practice," a Foreign Ministry statement said.
During their meeting, the Minister and the Deputy Secretary General previewed the next steps in cooperation between Latvia and the OECD and the upcoming signing of the Agreement on the Accession of Latvia to the OECD in Paris on 2 June.
Rinkēvičs promised that OECD membership is only the start of reforms and there would be no backsliding.
The OECD Deputy Secretary General will also meet with Ilmārs Rimševičs, the President of the Bank of Latvia, and Arvils Ašeradens, the Minister of Economy.
On 11 May, the OECD Council decided to invite Latvia to become the 35th member of the organisation.
