Retail trade turnover in Latvia grew by 4.6 % in June

Calendar adjusted data (at constant prices) compiled by the Central Statistical Bureau (CSB) published July 29 show that, compared to June 2019, in June 2020 total retail trade turnover rose by 4.6 %.

Turnover of retail trade in food products grew by 5.0 %. Retail trade in non-food products (except for retail sale of automotive fuel) increased by 3.3 %, but of automotive fuel – by 7.2 %.

As compared to June 2019, the most notable turnover growth was registered in retail sale of electrical household appliances in specialized stores (of 36.0 %), retail sale of cultural and recreation goods (27.7 %), and retail trade in pharmaceutical and medical goods (16.3 %). The largest turnover drop was registered in retail sale in stalls or markets (of 25.5 %).

Total retail trade turnover at current prices increased by 2.3 % (not taking into account the calendar influence).

Compared to May, in June 2020, the total turnover of retail trade enterprises rose by 4.6 %, according to seasonally adjusted data at constant prices. Turnover of retail trade in food products grew by 3.2 %. Retail trade in non-food products (except for retail sale of automotive fuel) increased by 6.4 %, but turnover of retail sale of automotive fuel – by 3.1 %.

As compared to the previous month, the largest turnover growth was registered in retail sale of clothing, footwear and leather goods (of 44.8 %), retail sale of cultural and recreation goods (18.2 %) and retail sale in stalls or markets (12.4 %), but turnover drop – retail sale via mail order houses or via Internet (6.9 %).

Compared to May, in June 2020 the total retail trade turnover at current prices (not taking into account seasonality) increased by 6.5 %.
