Of the €53.6 million, €13.1 million should be channeled to the improvement of the general fiscal space, while €40.5 million to the current priorities of ministries.
“In view of the successful cooperation with sectoral ministries in previous spending review periods, the ministries also reviewed the funding allocated so far this year and prepared proposals to develop financial resources for other priorities of their sector,” said Finance Minister Jānis Reirs (“New Unity”).
The FM said that the review of State budget expenditure is part of the annual budget preparation, which was structured in three main blocks in 2020: an analysis of the functions funded by the State budget, an analysis of the financing policies under the supervision of sectoral ministries, and the results of the mid-term expenditure review.
The spending review contains an analysis of the financing of policies under the supervision of ministries, in-depth assessment of individual areas in the education and health sectors, as well as individual issues in the internal affairs sector.
