The Latvian Central Bank is inviting locals and tourists alike to familiarize themselves with the new currency to avoid any suspicions that retailers are pulling a fast one when they hand out change.
At a glance, the two notes look extremely similar but the new version has additional security measures to help prevent counterfeiting which include some extra shiny bits.
The new note goes into circulation from September 23, but old-style notes will also remain legal tender while they are gradually phased out.
