Tourist accommodation still on the decline in Latvia

Data of the Central Statistical Bureau (CSB) published December 15 show that in October, 90.1 thousand foreign and local guests were hosted at tourist accommodation establishments in Latvia.

This is 57.2 % less than in October 2019 and 18.2 % less than in September 2019. Guests spent 185.5 thousand nights at tourist accommodation establishments, which is 54.5 % less than in October last year.

In October 2020, compared to October of the previous year, the number of residents of Latvia hosted at tourist accommodation establishments has increased by 10.3 %, reaching 72.4 thousand. The number of nights spent by local residents at tourist accommodation establishments was 136.6 thousand, that is 11% more. The most popular locations of accommodation establishments for the residents of Latvia were in Riga, where 25.6 % of guests stayed, in Jurmala - 14.1 %, in Liepaja – 9 %, in Sigulda municipality – 5 %, in Daugavpils - 4.2 %, in Rezekne and Ventspils - 2.4 % respectively.

In October 2020, 17.7 thousand foreign guests were hosted, which is by 87.8 % less than in October 2019. The number of nights spent by them at various accommodation establishments was 49 thousand, which is a decrease of 82.8 %. Most foreign guests hosted were from Estonia (2.1 thousand), Lithuania (1.9 thousand), Germany and Russia (1.6 thousand).

Most foreign guests were hosted in Riga - 78.2 %, Jurmala - 7.9 %, Liepaja - 3.9 %, Sigulda region - 1.3 %, Mārupe region - 1.2 % and Daugavpils – 1 %.
