Compared to June last year, the number of nights spent by visitors comprised 430.4 thousand, which is also twice as many.
In June 2022, 129.7 thousand foreign visitors were hosted at tourist accommodation establishments, which is 6.2 times more than in June 2021. The number of nights spent by non-residents has increased 5.7 times and comprised 232.1 thousand. In turn, the number of Latvian visitors hosted, compared to June 2021, rose by 14.6 % and comprised 116.2 thousand. The number of nights spent by residents has grown by 14.5 % and comprised 198.3 thousand.
In the second quarter of 2022 the number of foreign and resident visitors in Latvian tourist accommodation establishments comprised 556.3 thousand, which is 2.3 times more than in the 2nd quarter of 2021.
As compared to the 2nd quarter of the previous year, the number of nights spent by visitors has grown 2.2 times and comprised 991.1 thousand nights. Visitors spent an average of 1.8 nights at tourist accommodation establishments.
In the 2nd quarter the number of foreign visitors comprised 291.2 thousand, which is 6.7 times more than in the 2nd quarter of the previous year. The number of nights spent by them has risen 5.5 times and comprised 541.3 thousand. The majority of foreign visitors came from Lithuania (51.1 thousand), Estonia (39.4 thousand), Germany (33.7 thousand), United Kingdom (19.4 thousand), Finland (17.7 thousand), Ukraine (11.7 thousand), Poland (11.6 thousand) and the USA (10.5 thousand).
Out of foreign visitors 35.2 % or 102.5 thousand came from neighbouring countries – Lithuania (17.5 %), Estonia (13.5 %), Russia (3.2 %) and Belarus (0.9 %).
Most foreign visitors were hosted in Riga – 74.1 %, Jūrmala – 9.6 %, Liepāja – 3 %, Sigulda municipality – 1.5 % and Ventspils – 1.3 %.
In the 2nd quarter of 2022 tourist accommodation establishments hosted 265.2 thousand Latvian residents, which is 30.2 % more than in the 2nd quarter of 2021. Compared to a year ago, the number of nights spent by residents has grown by 24.9 % and comprised 449.9 thousand.
Latvian visitors stayed mostly in Riga (22.5 %), Jūrmala (11.1 %), Liepāja (6.6 %), Cēsis municipality (5.6 %), Sigulda municipality (4.6 %), Kuldīga municipality (3.8 %), Tukums municipality (3.4 %) and Daugavpils (3.1 %).
Refugees from Ukraine are not included in the number of foreign visitors in accordance with the common guidelines of the methodology on tourism statistics of European Statistical Office Eurostat.
