Two Latvia-made mobile applications or 'apps' received worldwide recognition Tuesday at a prestigious international ceremony in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

The application 'Football' developed by the State Chancellery to improve efficiency in public administration was named one of the world's best apps in the 'm-Government and Participation' category at the World Summit Award Mobile event, with the top award going to a local app from the Dubai police force.

Also honored was the radio app 'FIVE' developed by Latvia's youth-oriented radio station Pieci.lv [part of the same public media organization as LSM]. First prize went to Russian app LifeNews, which pays members of the public for contributing news stories.

Both Latvian apps were rated among the 40 best in the world by the expert jury.
