Job vacancy numbers in Latvia went down in Q3

Central Statistical Bureau data published December 15 show that in Q3 2023 there were 25.5 thousand job vacancies in Latvia, which is 0.6 thousand vacant jobs or 2.2 % fewer than in Q3 2022.

In the private sector there were 14.4 thousand and in the public sector 11.1 thousand vacant jobs. Over the year job vacancy number in private sector fell by 1.3 thousand or 8.2 % while in public sector grew by 0.7 thousand or 6.9 %.

Out of all jobs available in Latvia (both occupied and vacant), 2.8 % positions were vacant, of which 3.7 % in public and 2.3 % in private sector.

Compared to Q3 2022, in Q3 2023 the average number of occupied posts in the country went down by 7.9 thousand or 0.9 %. In private sector it dropped by 6.3 thousand or 1.0 % and in public by 1.6 thousand or 0.6 %.

In terms of major occupational groups, the largest share of job vacancies was recorded among technicians and associate professionals (4.5 %), skilled agricultural, forestry and fishery workers (3.9 %), craft and related trades workers (3.7 %), plant and machine operators and assemblers as well as service and sales workers (2.9 %).

In terms of economic activities, the largest share of job vacancies was recorded in public administration (8.8 %), followed by administrative and support service activities (4.8 %), accommodation and food service activities as well as transportation and storage (3.0 % in each).

Over the year, number of vacant jobs in Estonia and Latvia reduced by 8.7 % and 2.2 %, respectively, while in Lithuania grew by 7.2 %.
