Little change in Latvia's unemployment rate

Central Statistical Bureau (CSB) estimates show that in November 2023 the actual unemployment rate in Latvia was 6.4 %, a rise of 0.1 percentage points over the month. Over the year the actual unemployment rate fell by 0.2 percentage points.

The unemployment rate among women went up by 0.1 percentage points (to 5.4 %) and among men by 0.2 percentage points (to 7.5 %).

The unemployment rate registered with the State Employment Agency (SEA) was 5.4 %. It has risen by 0.1 percentage points over the month and reduced by 0.5 percentage points over the year.

In November 2023 there were 61.2 thousand unemployed persons in Latvia (25.8 thousand women and 35.3 thousand men), which is 1.0 thousand more than a month ago and 2.2 thousand fewer than a year ago. During the month, the number of unemployed men grew by 0.8 thousand and of unemployed women by 0.1 thousand.

The SEA calculates registered unemployment rate by using its own data on registered unemployed persons and CSB data on active population (employed and unemployed persons) of working age. The actual unemployment rate is estimated indirectly, based on the quarterly Labour Force Survey results compiled by the CSB and SEA monthly data on registered unemployed persons.
