Latvia restarts limited visa issuance to Russian citizens

Latvia will resume limited acceptance of visa applications from Russian citizens at Latvia’s diplomatic and consular missions abroad as of July 4, 2023, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Monday.

"Visa applications will be accepted from family members (spouses, parents, grandparents, children, grandchildren, and dependent persons) of the nationals – citizens and non-citizens – of Latvia, family members of the nationals of the European Union, the European Economic Area, or the Swiss Confederation, as well as persons whose entry is related to humanitarian considerations (e.g., a serious illness of a relative or attending a funeral, or there being a threat to the person’s safety or life)," says the Ministry's statement.

Each visa application will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.

The acceptance of all visa applications from the citizens of Russia at the Latvian missions abroad was suspended in response to the military mutiny in Russia.
