Roadworks progressing as planned, says Latvian road authority

Construction work is currently underway on 67 sections of national roads, and so far everything is on schedule - no delays, Latvian State Roads said August 6.

Some of the biggest traffic restrictions due to the repairs are on the Vidzeme highway from the turn-off to Cēsis to Rīdzene, on the Jelgava highway from Rīga to Jaunolaine, and on the Ventspils highway from the turn-off to Ugāle dzirnavės to Ūdensvada road.

Regional roads are also subject to significant traffic restrictions due to the repair works.

The planned works are proceeding without any delays, said Anna Kononova, a representative of Latvian State Roads.

"Construction has already been completed in a large part. Due to the fact that there have been savings in procurement, some new projects have been launched. They will probably be completed by the end of the construction season. Some of the work will continue next season, as it does every year. Of course, there is always the possibility that weather conditions may stop work earlier than planned," said Kononova.

The length of the construction season depends on the weather conditions. Sometimes it can end as early as October, but in some places, it can last until December.
