Upon completion of the construction work of two new roads, the Rail Baltica section near Riga airport has reached an important milestone – the road to and from the airport has become more convenient and safe, the project implementers said.

During construction, drivers were periodically able to use the new roads separately, but as of Wednesday, November 8, afternoon traffic will be open as a single road system.

Both new roads have been built with two lanes in each direction to improve safety and promote a smooth flow of traffic. This strategic planning is expected to remove congestion and reduce travel time slightly.

This is an important step in the construction phase of Rail Baltica airport station, and the development and accessibility of the airport, the project implementers said.

Construction of rail Baltica station and related infrastructure near Riga airport is carried out by the international association “B.S.L. Infra”, which consists of the Austrian company “Swietelsky AG” and Latvian construction companies – SIA “Binders” and AS “LNK Industries”. The commissioning party is the national entrant of Rail Baltica in Latvia – SIA “European Railway lines”.

The financing of this project within 81-85% is ensured by the Connecting Infrastructure Facility of the European Union (EU), while the remaining part is provided by the State budget resources of Latvia. Beneficiary of EU aid and project implementer is the Ministry of Transport.
