Major intersection on way to airport to be rebuilt in Rīga

In Rīga, major construction works are ongoing on the intersection of Lielirbes Street and Kārļa Ulmaņa Drive. Those responsible promise it will be ready by October, Latvian Radio reported on May 13.

On Monday, May 13, the developers of construction work informed the deputies of Riga City Council's Transport and Transport Committee about the progress of the project.

The intersection of Lielirbes Street and Kārļa Ulmaņa Drive is an important traffic hub through which people travel to get from the center to Zolitude, Jūrmala, Airport, Mārupe and back. There are several supermarkets next to the junction and the number will increase. For more convenient access to stores, developers have been rebuilding the crossing since February.

It is expected to be able to drive straight down Lielā Street, along the new Depo store, to Mārupe, while driving along Lielirbes Street from the center. It will also be easier to get down the road to the center. Between Lielirbes Street and Remtes Street, which runs parallel to Kārļa Ulmaņa Drive, next to the shopping center Spice, a roundabout is envisaged. Pedestrian crossings are about to be established.

Those changes are to be implemented by October 1.

All costs of the project shall be borne by private operators.
