Volvo driver handed 180 km/h speeding ticket

Take note – story published 1 year and 4 months ago

On June 11, highway patrol officers of the State Police recorded a speeding violation by the driver of a Volvo doing twice the legal limit.

The offense occurred on the Rīga-Ventspils highway in Tukums district, with the Volvo doing 180 km/h – twice the legal limit of 90 km/h.

As video shows, the 30-year-old driver quickly pulled over. For this violation, an administrative process was initiated and a fine of 400 euros was imposed.

The State Police calls on car drivers not to be reckless and to remember that exceeding the permitted driving speed, as well as non-observance of other road traffic rules, endangers the safety of not only the driver himself, but also other road users.

In a separate incident on June 13 (see video below) the driver of a Hyundai vehicle made the unwise decision to try to outrun a police car which had pulled it over after receiving a report of suspicious behavior in Rēzekne district. After a dangerous high-speed pursuit which resulted in 24 differet violations and also involved a State Border Guard helicopter, the car was eventually cornered and it was revealed that the driver was under-age.
