Vivi to guard trains with drones

To fight vandalism more effectively, including trains being spray painted, passenger train operator Vivi has started using drone technology to guard its premises starting October, Vivi said Tuesday.

Despite a slight decrease in the number of vandalism cases compared to the previous year, the train operator Vivi still faces situations where individuals attempt to leave street art on parked trains.

Although in some cases the security staff spot the intruders in time, the intent to return and carry out their plans often remains. Therefore, Vivi has started using drone technology to secure its facilities in order to ensure more efficient monitoring of the carrier's premises and more rapid transfer of information to security guards and the police, Vivi said.

The drones are also equipped with infrared light sensors and thermal cameras that can detect intruders at any time of the day or night and pinpoint their location.

It is also expected that the drone technology used by Vivi, given its equipment and capabilities, will help to detect and thus prevent fire threats in good time.

The use of drones to protect areas is a pilot project of Vivi, which, if successful, plans to gradually introduce drone technology more widely.
