On Tuesday evening between 18:30 and 20:30 train movements were suspended at the station. At the time, the trains were running from and to Torņakalns, Jāņavārti, and Zemitāni, the closest to the Rīga Central Station, said AS Passenger Train. As of 20:30 the train movement is gradually being restored.

According to Agnese Līcīte, representative of the Latvian Railway, a power line was hit during the construction of the railway line Rail Baltica, resulting in a short-circuit. Consequently, the voltage for the line at the Rīga Central Railway Station was switched off.
The State Fire and Rescue Service said that on Tuesday after 18:00 calls were received to Prāgas Street next to the station, where as a result of the short-circuit, a wooden support structure had ignited.
Electricity was switched off to perform fire-fighting jobs. Currently the flames have been extinguished.
