Very slow traffic on Jelgava highway in Latvia

Construction works continue on 60 sections of the national roads, and the biggest traffic restrictions are on the Jelgava highway (A8) from Dalbe to the Vircava bridge near Jelgava, said Latvian State Roads (LVC).

LVC asks drivers to plan at least one hour to drive on this section or to choose alternative routes. Slower traffic and about 40 minutes on the road should also be expected on the Jelgava highway from Jaunolaine to Riga, and 45 minutes should be planned for the section of the Vidzeme motorway from the turn-off to Cēsis (P20) to Rīdzene.

Major traffic restrictions on main national roads:

  • Jelgava highway (A8) from Jaunolaine to Riga, speed limit 70 and 50 km/h, estimated crossing time 40 minutes;
  • Jelgava highway (A8) from Dalbe to the bridge over the Vircava river: speed limit 70 and 50 km/h, up to two traffic lights, estimated crossing time up to one hour;
  • Vidzeme highway (A2) from the turn to Cēsis (P20) to Rīdzene - seven temporary traffic lights and a local detour, speed limits 70 and 50 km/h. Estimated crossing time 45 minutes;
  • pedestrian and cycling infrastructure is being built along the Liepāja-Lithuanian border (Rucava) highway (A11) from Liepāja to Bernāti, with road narrowing and temporary traffic lights at some locations. The whole section takes 20 minutes to cross.
