Public transport and flights could be delayed Thursday

On Thursday morning, snow and ice in most of Latvia make it difficult to travel on the main and regional roads of the country. Drivers should expect extra time on the road. Public transport in Rīga and airline flights at Rīga International Airport are also delayed.

Airport services are working on clearing snow on the runway, however, delays on individual flights are possible. Rīga Airport invites passengers to follow the information provided by airlines, as well as to schedule additional time on their way to the airport.

During the intense snowfall in Riga, buses are delayed for up to an hour, said Baiba Bartaševiča-Feldmane, representative of Rīgas Satiksme. For trams, delays are up to 15-20 minutes on some routes, for trolley buses 30-40 minutes, while buses are delayed for 40 minutes or some routes up to an hour.

As reported, drivers can ride public transport for free today upon presentation of a vehicle registration certificate.

The toughest situation is in the Dārziņi, Mucenieki, and Mangaļsala districts of Rīga.

In Rīga, heavy snowing began on the night to Thursday and, according to the weather forecast, it will continue throughout the day. The snow layer on the city's streets has increased by about 15 centimeters, making it difficult for both vehicles and pedestrians to move around.

ALl available machinery is involved in cleaning, and manual work units are also active.
