Baiba Bartaševica-Feldmane, representative of Rīgas Satiksme, explained the reasons for the delay with construction work at the substation: "All active works— rails, contact line and construction of stops — have been completed. However, the reconstruction work of the substation, which provides power to the contact line, is currently ongoing so that the tram can run successfully. At present, the substation has already been rebuilt and is now being equipped with new and state-of-the-art equipment, and the works are in the final stages."
Rīgas Satiksme plans to restore the 5th tram movement to Iļģuciems in the second half of February. “I'm not going to say the exact deadline for now [..] but there are plans to renew the tram movement during February,“ Bartaševiča-Feldmane said.
Construction work to adapt tracks to the low-floor tram for the route section of tram 5 from the intersection of Slokas Street and Jūrmalas Gatve to Iļģuciems began in December 2023. Since then, there have also been changes in the organization of traffic, with passengers being transported by bus and not tram at this stage.
Meanwhile, low-floor tram adjustment works have been finished completely on route 1 and route 11.
Work continues on the 7th tram route line towards Ķengarags. Tram lines on routes 2 and 10 are still waiting.
