5.4 million passengers used Rīga Airport in 2022

According to data published by the Central Statistical Bureau on January 24, in 2022 passenger turnover at Riga International Airport comprised 5.4 million passengers, which is 3 million or 2.3 times more than in 2021 and 2.7 times more than in 2020. Both those years were heavily impacted by the coronavirus pandemic.

However, the figure is still nearly a third – 31 % – below the total for the pre-Covid year of 2019.

In December 2022 passenger turnover at International Airport comprised 458.9 thousand passengers, which is 1.5 times more than in December 2021 and 5.7 % more than in the previous month. Compared to December 2019, the number of passengers at airport was 21.1 % smaller.

The total number of flights in December was 4 574, which is 1.4 % less than a year ago.

In December 2022 the total volume of cargo and mail loaded and unloaded comprised 1.9 thousand tonnes, which is 10.1 % more than in November, but 47.8 % less than in December 2021.

In December 0.7 thousand tonnes of cargo and mail were unloaded, which is 64.4 % less than in December 2021, but 1.1 thousand tonnes of cargo and mail were loaded, which is 23.5 % less.
