airBaltic "Official Carrier" of Pope

Latvian airline airBaltic put out a press release September 21 telling the world it was "the Official Carrier of Pope Francis' Visit to the Baltics".

airBaltic will organize the ascent and descent of the Pope and his retinue on their journey from Vilnius, Lithuania, to Riga, Latvia, to Tallinn, Estonia, and from Tallinn to Rome, Italy between September 24 and September 25, 2018 - unless an Act of God intervenes.

CEO Martin Gauss said it was an honor.

Pope Francis has dispensed with the practice of kissing the ground upon disembarkation, though by the time he finally departs for the Holy See he may have picked up the traditional Baltic habit of a round of applause for the pilot following a safe landing.
