Brasa bridge reconstruction begins in Rīga

Take note – story published 1 year ago

Construction of the new Brasa Bridge has been launched, which builders and council officials promise to complete by next year's Song and Dance Celebration (June 30, 2023), Latvian Television reported May 19.

Repairs to the Brasa Bridge started in 2019, when the existing bridge was planned to be renovated. However, it was concluded that the bridge is in too bad condition, so it is planned to be demolished and a new one built instead.

While the bridge is closed for cars and pedestrians, public transport will continue to run.

“There are currently no planned changes to the traffic organization. But the plan “B” is ready. If, as a result of the monitoring, we find that there are significant changes, we must close the bridge. And at that moment we will organize the traffic probably through a railway crossing, which has been constructed specifically because of these long-standing road jobs,” said Jānis Vaivods, director of the Riga City Council Transport Department.

The construction of Brasa Bridge will cost more than EUR 13 million.

Construction is scheduled to be completed next year by the end of June.
