Estonia makes Latvia's Covid "low threat" country list

Take note – story published 2 years ago

Northern neighbor Estonia is a notable inclusion on Latvia's revised epidemiological travel list, being rated a "low public health threat" in contrast with Lithuania and Latvia itself, which are rated a "high" threat.

The full list is the first to feature a new classification system which rates travel to each country as low, high or very high risk. No countries are currently ranked as a very high risk.

The epidemiological requirements based upon the lists come into force at 00:00 on Saturday, June 19.

The incidence rate of Covid-19 in Latvia is currently the highest in the European Union (153 cases per 100,000 of population), based upon the 14-day cumulative data of the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control. Estonia's rate is around half Latvia's, at 74.8 cases per 100,000 of population cumulatively over 14 days.

However, it should be noted that the trend in Latvia is steadily downward, with Friday's reported morbidity rate at 117.8 cases per 100,000 of population.
