The State Border Guard indicated that the situation has stabilized and the flow of Russian citizens has got smaller.
Only Russian citizens corresponding to the exemption categories laid down in the Government's decision have crossed the Latvian State border since September 19.
15% of them arrived on the basis of visas of category C or D issued in Latvia. A further 39% are Latvian residence permit holders, among them family members, students, employees, persons associated with work needs or any humanitarian considerations.
Nearly half of Russian citizens crossing the external borders use visas or residence permits issued by other countries. This means that Latvia is not the country of destination for these persons, but is used for transit to travel to other countries of the European Union.
Last week, from December 5 to 11, 1,465 Russian citizens crossed the external border.
Meanwhile, 16 Russian citizens were denied entry to Latvia last week, while a total of 448 Russian citizens have been denied entry since September 19.
No persons have been detained on the “green” border with Russia who would try to cross it illegally in order to enter Latvia.
