Take note – story published 1 year ago

On Monday, August 29, a fire broke out on the ferry Stena Scandica, which runs between Ventspils and the Swedish port of Nynäshamn. There are around 300 people on the ferry, but the Swedish authorities report that the fire has been contained and the passengers are not in danger.

As a precaution, rescue ships and helicopters have gone to the scene.

The fire alarm came around 12:38 a.m. local time, when the ship was north of Gotland.

Swedish media report that the fire broke out in a freezer container of a truck on the vehicle deck. Smoke was observed but no open flame.

There are currently no reports of the victims of the fire, and it is likely that there will be no need for the evacuation of passengers.
