Entry through the front door is determined on those public transport routes which do not have a high passenger flow, listed in the visual below.
The observations of Rīgas Satiksme show that passengers tend to register tickets more when it is done at the console next to the driver. The new arrangement had already started before Covid-19, but was reversed with the pandemic.
“Every month, controllers punish 4,000-5,000 people without a ticket, but it's just the visible part. But if we look back in history, registration improved by 15% [when entering through the front door],” said Baiba Bartaševica-Feldmane, spokeswoman for RS.
Rīgas Satiksme promises that people with prams or wheelchairs will still be able to enter through the middle door.
Passengers who pay for the journey with QR code tickets must pay for the journey when entering the vehicle and show the code to the driver.
