Take note – story published 1 year ago

By the end of 2023, 145 environmentally friendly buses will be purchased for eight Latvian cities with the support of the European Union (EU) funds, the Ministry of Transport (SM) said on October 21.

The replacement of current buses with state-of-the-art vehicles is implemented with the co-financing of €44.9 million of the EU Cohesion Fund. By the end of next year, 145 modern and environmentally friendly buses will be purchased for passenger transport in eight Latvian cities – Daugavpils, Jelgava, Jēkabpils, Jūrmala, Rēzekne, Rīga, Valmiera, and Ventspils.

So far, 74 buses have already been purchased in the cities, while another 71 buses will be purchased by the end of next year.

The purchased modern and environmentally friendly bus operation shall be provided with electricity, compressed natural gas, dual diesel and electric motor systems (hybrids).

The benefits of new buses are not only passenger amenities and a cleaner environment, but also lower operating costs for car parks and more modern working conditions for bus drivers.
