As compared to August last year, the number of nights spent by visitors comprised 587.5 thousand, which is 31.6 % more.
During the eight months of this year, the number of foreign and resident visitors comprised 1.5 million, which is 70 % more than in the eight months of 2021, however, compared to the corresponding period of time before the pandemic in 2019, a drop of 25.4 % was observed in the number of visitors.
In August 2022, out of all visitors 55 % or 185.3 thousand were foreign visitors, which is 73.2 % more than last year. The number of nights spent by foreign visitors, compared to August last year, has grown by 68.1 % and comprised 332.9 thousand. The average length of stay of foreign visitors comprised 1.8 nights.
The majority of foreign visitors came from Lithuania (50.7 thousand), Estonia (23.1 thousand), Germany (17.3 thousand), Finland (10.9 thousand), United Kingdom (9.1 thousand), Russia (7.4 thousand) and Poland (7 thousand).
Most foreign visitors were hosted in Riga – 54.4 %, Jūrmala – 15.3 %, Liepāja – 4.9 %, Mārupe municipality – 3.7 % Ventspils – 3.1% and Sigulda municipality – 2.5 %.
In August 2022, 151.3 thousand Latvian residents were hosted at tourist accommodation establishments, which is 1.9 % more than in August 2021. The number of nights spent by them comprised 254.6 thousand, and it rose by 2.5 %, compared to August last year.
Latvian visitors stayed mostly in Riga (16.2 %), Jūrmala (7.7 %), Liepāja (6 %), Cēsis municipality (5.8 %), Talsi municipality (5.5 %), Limbaži municipality (4.6 %), Ventspils (4.4 %) and Sigulda municipality (4.2 %).
