International postal shipments from Latvia delayed

Take note – story published 2 years ago

The traditional increase in cargo flows at the end of the year is causing delays in the deliveries of international shipments, Latvian Radio reported December 13.

This year the delays are especially pronounced when shipping to the United States.

Delays this year are affected by the limited capacity of air transport, particularly in intercontinental transport. According to Latvian Post, the number of seats available for shipments on aircraft to the United States is limited and many European postal companies are waiting.

As a result, many shipments will not reach their destinations until the holidays.

Mārtiņš Liepiņš, director of the Commerce Department of Latvia, said that on average, shipments to the United States take two to three weeks. Currently, the shipment will take four to six weeks.
