Latvia will introduce the so-called Covid-19 certificate or the European Union's Digital Green Certificate, by mid-June, according the information report prepared by the Ministry of Health presented to government on Tuesday, April 13.

The Digital Green Certificate Framework will allow the issuing of a certificate in paper or digital form (as requested), verification and acceptance of any of the three types of certificates:

  • a vaccination certificate attesting that the certificate holder has been vaccinated against Covid-19;
  • a test certificate showing the result received by the certificate holder and the date of the Covid-19 test;
  • a certificate of disease attesting that the holder of the certificate has overcome SARS-CoV-2 infection.

In March, European Commission proposed to introduce a Digital Green Certificate to facilitate save movement within EU during the Covid-19 pandemic.

It is planned that the implementation of the Digital Green Certificate in Latvia will be ensured by the National Health Service in cooperation with the competent authorities.  Health Minister Daniels Pavluts told journalists on Tuesday that he would report on practical steps in the government next week to introduce the digital certificate into Latvia.
