Liepāja gets new trams on its birthday

Take note – story published 3 years ago

On March 18, the city of Liepāja is celebrating 396 years since it was founded, Latvian Radio reported Thursday.

On this special day, two state-of-the-art low-floor trams are starting to wander its streets. Altogether, Liepāja plans to receive twelve of these by 2022.

As reported earlier by LSM, the trams are built on custom order in Croatia, by "Končar Electric Vehicles Inc”. Overall, through co-financing, the costs of the project for the introduction of modern trams amount to €20 million.

Liepāja City Council representative Andrejs Rjabcevs tested the ride Thursday and told Latvian Radio that they were more disability, senior and family-friendly, adding that "the bright colors looked nice in the cityscape."
