Sāks projektēt "Rail Baltica" kravu termināli

Rail Baltica Salaspils freight terminal enters design stage

Take note – story published 1 year ago

On Thursday, June 16, a contract was signed for the construction of the Rail Baltica freight terminal in Salaspils. The design of the terminal will cost nearly EUR 7 million, but the cost of the terminal itself is not yet known, Latvian Television reported.

The intra-modal freight terminal in Salaspils will be designed by two companies, the Latvian “BRD projekts” and the Italian company “Sintagma S.R.L”. The terminal area will stretch over seven kilometers and 170 hectares.

“I think Salaspils municipality will be very developed and companies will be interested,” said Ēriks Diļevs, technical director of the Baltic States joint undertaking RB Rail in Latvia.

The Italian company involved in the design has already participated in the design of the Rīga airport station.

“The station by the Rīga airport is a key point for the mobility of Baltic residents. The Salaspils freight terminal will be one for freight. We are very pleased to have the opportunity to support the introduction of this new, challenging project. We will work with a high effort to make this project successful,” said Vasco Truffini, spokesman for Sintagma S.R.L.

The design of the freight terminal will take about two years, and the construction project could be announced as early as next year. Given the rising construction costs, nobody predicts the cost of the terminal itself.
