European Road Police Network “ROADPOL Safety Days” have ended tragically in Latvia, as people have been injured and killed, said Juris Jančevskis, State Police representative, on Latvian Television September 23.

ROADPOL Safety Days took place since last Wednesday throughout the European Union, with the aim to eliminate road accidents on European roads where people are killed and severely injured.

There were 651 road accidents in Latvia during the week. 116 people were injured and two died.

Jančevskis said that still one of the most pressing issues for the police was the carelessness and recklessness of drivers.

“Remember that the attitude and behavior of each traffic user on the road are the basis for safety!” said Jančevskis.

By 22 September this year, 94 road users had died in Latvia, 3058 had been injured, 346 of whom were severely injured. Last year 92 people were killed in road accidents, while 337 people were severely injured.
