Speed limits down for winter season in Latvia

Take note – story published 1 year ago

As of October 11, the maximum permitted speed on the entire national road network in Latvia is 90 kilometers per hour.

During the summer, when driving conditions are generally better, the maximum speed on some parts of the country's major roads is temporarily increased to 100 or 110 km/h. However, the arrival of autumnal conditions sees those sections revert to the 90 km/h limit for the autumn and winter seasons.

The road maintenance authority Latvian State Roads (Latvijas valsts ceļi, LVC) said that drivers should be more careful as it gets darker and more slippery.

If you discover difficult driving conditions or a blocked road you can report it to Latvijas Valsts ceļi by calling the 24-hour toll-free information line 80005555.

A map with information on driving conditions on the state road network is available on the LVC website which is updated every two hours or more often if driving conditions change dramatically. This information is also displayed in the Waze navigation application.
