Youth station Radio 5 readies a reboot

From August 23, youth-oriented radio station Latvian Radio 5 is revamping its content and presenter roster, it has been announced.

LR5 is part of the same Latvian public media umbrella organization as LSM.

The director of Latvian Radio 5, Kārlis Kazāks, said the new approach involves targeting listeners aged 20 to 45, while appealing to the younger audience aged 15 to 25 in a multimedia environment using the 'pieci.lv' brand.

"The renewed Latvijas Radio 5 will become a station of various genres, specially selected for the latest music from Latvia and the world, paying special attention to the development of new music and creative industries in Latvia," Kazāks said.

"From August 23, we will offer listeners a new feature - LR5 one-minute news bulletins – providing listeners with the most important information in a dynamic and audience-friendly way," he added.

Established ten years ago, perhaps the biggest achievement of the channel has been as the home of the annual "Dod pieci!" charity marathon.

According to the latest data (Kantar TNS December 2022 - May 2023). Latvian Radio 5 is listened to by 138,000 people per week. If you'd like to give it a listen, you can do so below.
