According to Re:Baltica, "During the second quarter of the year the fact-checking efforts in the three Baltic states primarily concentrated on the war in Ukraine and the spread of Russian propaganda about it. The highest level of Ukraine-related disinformation was found in Lithuania, while Latvia and Estonia saw a decline."
In Latvia specifically, in addition to pro-Kremlin propaganda, disinformation efforts also centered on themes such as the Istanbul Convention, the development of a new military training range, and NATO's strategic intentions. Much of the material – such as the use of top secret climate weapons to create earthquakes, or the compulsory consumption of insects by EU citizens – might seem completely bonkers to level-headed readers, but that's clearly no bar to such stuff spreading on social media among conspiracy theorists and those with a craving for sensation.
Meanwhile in Estonia there was eye-popping information about supposed bestiality in Spain, while Lithuanians were treated to improbable theorizing about Martian civilizations.
