The Latvian Ministry of Culture (KM), as the ministry responsible for the media industry, said September 8 it signed a cooperation agreement with the Baltic Centre for Media Excellence (BCME) on 3 September to provide educational training events to young journalists.

Within the framework of the cooperation agreement, the BCME will provide practical workshops for young media professionals by the end of the year, where they will be introduced to "innovative content creation tools" to include creation of multimedia content, podcasts, acquisition of the basics of journalism and ethics, etc.

"Leading Latvian media professionals will be involved in the training process, representing the largest Latvian media editorial offices, also opening further cooperation opportunities for the most talented and diligent participants," the Ministry said.

The target audience of the practical workshops are future and existing new media content creators who are Latvian or foreign university students or recent graduates (graduated not earlier than in 2020).

Funding of just over 4,000 euros has been found for the provision of a series of practical workshops.

In accordance with the security measures in place to limit the spread of Covid-19, the workshops will take place either face-to-face, semi-face-to-face or online.
