Public media exits the advertising market

Take note – story published 3 years ago

Public service media - Latvian Television, Latvian Radio and the web portal lsm.lv of which the English-language service you are now reading is a part, have now left the commercial advertising market.

In 2020, EUR 5.5 million was allocated from the government budget for the purpose and EUR 8.3 million in this year's budget. The money has been allocated to ensure stability and development of public media.

The National Electronic Mass Media Council (NEPLP) has developed guidelines for operations of the public media outside the advertising market.

In line with these guidelines, public media starting from January may not broadcast commercial advertisements of goods and services with the exceptions stated in the law on the public electronic mass media.

As a result you should no longer see commercial advertisements popping up on your screen or playing before and during the video clips that you watch on LSM and other public media websites and portals. We hope this results in a more pleasant viewing experience.
