The head of the NEPLP said that the Council operates within the scope of its competence and that the “TV Rain” was thoroughly verified, including an assessment of the true beneficiaries.
“TV Rain” is being monitored and will continue to be monitored, and if “there are offenses – there will be appropriate and immediate action”, said Āboliņš.
Latvian Radio previously reported that more than 200 Russian journalists and 23 media organizations have emigrated to Latvia since the war began in Russia. Some of them have also formally started work from Riga to continue to inform the Russian public about the ongoing war in Ukraine, which is no longer possible due to the laws adopted there. These companies include TV Rain.
All other Russian-registered TV channels are currently banned in Latvia.
