The LTV program De Facto reported that there have been serious disagreements among the board of LTV for a long time and its work was almost paralyzed due to differing opinions.
Bērzina quit overe differences regarding the proposed purchase of a mobile television studio system. Meanwhile another board member, Kaspars Odiņš, told De Facto that he had been ill for a few weeks, so he did not know what had happened at work recently. As is understood by De Facto,neither of the two members of the LTV board have actually communicated with the chairman of the board Ivars Priede recently, and Priede himself only learned about their resignations after they were submitted.
When asked if the work of the LTV board was constructive, Priede tried to be diplomatic:
"I would like to wish for better work from the board. I will try to be politically correct, without offending anyone or anything, but opinions often differed. Therefore, I proposed changes in the agenda of the board, that if we have critical differences of opinion, involve the [public media] council as well, which has often been done several times in cases where one of the board members believes a decision is wrong."
Most likely the public media regulator, SEPLP, will not hold full tenders for new LTV board member positions because, according to the current plan, a newly-combined public media structure should start operating from 2025, which will involve running another tender for a new board. However, an official decision is promised in the near future.
SEPLP chairman Jānis Siksnis said: "We hope that in the summer of next year we will hold a competition for the board of the unified media, for five years, for a clear perspective, in which the very best will apply."
De Facto said LTV will likely look for temporary board members, who will be appointed only for a year. This will not happen in a tender, but by negotiation.
