Pa vidu (In-between) is a story of a Latvian family making tentative plans to return to Latvia. Ģirts, a doctor working in Denmark for nine years, receives an invitation to set up a professional practice back in Latvia – a welcome opportunity, as he would like to look after his parents better. But things aren't as simple as that, and his family is divided over the issue.
Director Viesturs Meikšāns describes the protagonist thus: "I think that Ģirts is a very sensitive person. I'd say he feels such micro-vibrations from the Danes very strong. I've spoken to others living abroad, and many don't even mention the word 'stranger'. They have no problem in being a stranger. They don't sort people into strangers and non-strangers. [..] I feel it's a big and painful topic for Ģirts. He wanted to put down roots in Danish society, but he feels that the Danes won't let him in."
