This is the newest installment of LSM's English-subtitled series of documentary films entitled Latvian Code and selected in a contest held by Latvian Public Television (LTV). This year’s fifth out of seven winners to be featured is Aiga Skrīvere's film Just a child (Latvian - Tikai bērns) that shows the moving story of two young women - aged 15 and 16 - who've become mothers at an early age with little to support them.
Just a child. Documentary. Latvia, 2015
Director: Aiga Skrīvere
The two young women - Lidija and Esmeralda - have become mothers at a tender age. At the moment they're at a point where neither their families nor the fathers of their children can help them. They live in a safe house which proves to be a place where they can get the love, good will and peace they couldn't find before. The visceral flick contrasts youthful naivety with hard-to-face facts in a story of longing, hoping for love, and making difficult choices.
