On September 30, in Buenos Aires, the Under Secretary, Political Director at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ivars Lasis, met with the Under-Secretary of Foreign Policy at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Trade and Worship of the Argentine Republic, Marcia Rosa Levaggi, for the fourth political consultations between Latvia and Argentina, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a release.

"At the meeting, Ivars Lasis thanked Argentina for its strong international support and military assistance to Ukraine and underlined the need to work towards further containment of Russia," said the release.

The Latvian and Argentine officials confirmed their willingness to strengthen bilateral relations between the countries and exchanged views on opportunities to expand economic cooperation in areas such as information and communication technologies, culture and education.

Ivars Lasis also expressed his support for the finalisation of trade agreement negotiations between the European Union and Mercosur in the near future. Given that Latvia and Argentina are like-minded countries, closer cooperation in international organisations, especially the United Nations, was also on the agenda.

In addition, the diplomats discussed the situation in the Middle East and current developments in Latin America and the Caribbean region, including cooperation formats with the European Union.

During their visit to Buenos Aires, the Latvian delegation met with the Head of the European Union Delegation to Argentina, the Ambassadors of Ukraine and Finland to Argentina, researchers, and Latvians living in Buenos Aires.
