Aldis Laviņš executed the duties of the Constitutional Court President since former President Sanita Osipova left office on February 11.
Five Justices voted for Laviņš, two voted against. The President is elected from among the Justices with an absolute majority vote. Two elections took place already – on February 24 and on March 3 – but both were without results.
Laviņš took office at the Constitutional Court in 2014 and was its President between May 2014 and May 2017. Information and CV about the Constitutional Court’s President is available here.
The President of the Constitutional Court chairs the Court’s hearings, organizes the Court’s work and represents the Constitutional Court.
