Applicants invited for Foreign Ministry grant program

Latvia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced a grant project competition "Support for development cooperation in recipient countries selected by the Republic of Latvia" which applies to specific European Union Eastern Partnership countries – Georgia, Moldova, and Ukraine – as well as the following countries in Central Asia – Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.

"In line with the “Communication on the Global EU response to COVID-19”, this competition is envisaged to address urgent issues raised by the COVID-19 crisis, including in the health sector, and to overcome socio-economic challenges related to COVID-19. To reach those aims, support may be provided for the development of public governance, administrative capacity building, business development, strengthening export capacity, and promotion of principles of democratic and open societies," the ministry said in announcing the competition.

In view of restrictions being imposed during the COVID-19 crisis, activities may be implemented remotely, through mobile solutions.

Eligible applicants are institutions of direct and indirect public administration, local governments, government agencies of the Republic of Latvia as well as associations, foundations, businesses, and trade unions registered in Latvia. The project applicant should have at least one cooperation partner in a recipient country.

The total funding made available for the projects is EUR 213,013. A single development cooperation grant project can receive from EUR 20,000 to EUR 40,000.

At 13.00 on 24 April 2020, all potential applicants are welcome to a videoconference on the requirements related to drafting and preparing an application.
