The Constitutional Court is comprised of seven Justices, who are confirmed into office by the majority vote of the Saeima – with at least 51 votes.  There was a vacant spot among the Justices after Daiga Rezevska's term ended on May 23.

Briede holds a Ph.D. in Law from the Law Faculty of the University of Latvia. She is currently a senator from the Department of Administrative Affairs of the Supreme Court and a professor of law at the University of Latvia.
