Finland's Pekka Haavisto in Rīga to discuss NATO, Russia, diplomacy

January 25 sees the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Latvia, Edgars Rinkēvičswelcoming a working visit from the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Finland, Pekka Haavisto.

The officials are due to discuss bilateral relations between Latvia and Finland, regional cooperation, Russian aggression against Ukraine, and the process of Finland’s accession to NATO, which is still being held up by objections about Swedish and Finnish membership from Turkey.

As part of his visit, Foreign Minister Haavisto will meet with the President of Latvia, Egils Levits, and take part in the meeting of the heads of the Latvian diplomatic missions abroad, at which he will deliver a presentation on security in the Baltic Sea region.
