Presenting the award, President Egils Levits thanked Mme Soupison for her active work in strengthening Latvian-French bilateral relations since 2016, as her term as France's diplomatic representative is drawing to an end.

The award was made for her "significant contribution to strengthening co-operation between Latvia and France."

The President and the ambassador also discussed the President's own project for the establishment of a State Council in Latvia along the lines of the one that operates in France to give additional oversight to legislators, and the pair also talked over other bilateral matters.
