Latvia condemns "so-called" Donbas elections

Take note – story published 5 years ago

Latvia took its place alongside a large number of other countries November 12 in condemning  the holding of what it called "illegitimate 'elections' in the so-called “Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics” on 11 November.

A statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said they were "a clear violation of the Minsk agreements and thus have the potential to aggravate the situation in eastern Ukraine. Latvia will not recognize the results of these illegal 'elections', which were supported by Russia."

The ministry added that Latvia "strongly supports the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine and insists that the full implementation of the Minsk agreements is the only way to secure a peaceful settlement of the conflict in eastern Ukraine."
